about

“Lovecraft” is the debut EP of Super Hans, a.k.a. The Starkiller, Harrison Fjord, Che Guerrilla, released under the keepitwiel communications label.

The EP evokes the magic, horror and strangeness of deep space exploration expressed through the medium of space disco. It is an ode to 70s and 80s space synth while borrowing heavily from the 2000s nordic/cosmic disco scene, with some added italo hints and a surprise 90s house twist.

The titular track “Lovecraft” (104 BPM) is loosely inspired by 70/80s synth slow jams like “Moments in Love”, “‘Lectric Love” and “Bubble Sex”. After a hypnotic pulsating intro with an acid bassline buildup, we are taken to a bombastic synth eruption after which the acid comes back with a vengeance. The track tries to answer the question “what would sex be like on a long dark interstellar voyage”?

“I Am Spartacus” (114 BPM) saw its first release in 2011 already. It is a full-on nordic disco banger. I imagine it’s what the Norwegian Space Agency would play when they count down to launch their first rocket into space.

“The Black Triangle” (122 BPM) invokes the euphoria of accelerating your spaceship past the event horizon into the unknown. Heavy with stabbing 90s house synths, eurodisco clichés, crazy FX and a cosmic melody, it is a true space dance banger.

“Theme From Tannhauser Gate” (102 BPM) is a long, dark and subliminal italo/space track with some heavy arp bass and a dramatic synth horn section. It depicts the ultimate fate of the entire universe: death and darkness.

“Theme From Tannhauser Gate (2009 Italo Mix)” (115 BPM) is a demo version of the previous track, sped up a bit and adding a bit of italo cheesiness.
